What about rehearsals and time commitment?

The Orchestra rehearses every Tuesday from 7-10 p.m. throughout the academic year (excluding final exam periods). Rehearsals take place at the University Lutheran Church, located on Harvard’s campus.

When and where does the orchestra perform?

We perform two concerts per semester at Harvard. Educational outreach efforts are also a part of our season.  These performances are on a volunteer basis and occur both at Harvard and throughout the Cambridge community.

What makes Du Bois Orchestra at Harvard Square different from other orchestras at Harvard?

Although there are various musical opportunities on campus, the Du Bois Orchestra at Harvard provides a very unique space for students to participate in an inspiring and high-quality environment for music making and social interaction.

Besides an explicit social mission of inclusion and equity, the artistic experience in our Orchestra is shaped by different and profound experiences of performance practice you might not find in an average Symphony Orchestra.

The Du Bois Orchestra at Harvard believes in cultivating a space where we can grapple with the challenges of this work and the joy that comes with connecting with others along the journey. Here, you can share your passion for music with others in an intellectually and socially complex collective, inviting richer musical experiences through diversity in performance and outreach.
